| As manager
of the Connexions Centre I am very proud of the work that our team
have achieved since the Centre was opened in April 2003.
Connexions is a nationwide initiative designed to help young
people in two main areas:
a) Up to date advice on careers, education and training options
b) Advice and help with problems and issues that might prevent
young people getting the best from ‘life’. This would
include eating disorders, drug related issues, smoking, psychological
and emotional problems. This service runs parallel to and complements
the school’s pastoral system.
To meet these demands we should have two fully qualified Connexions
advisors backed up by several other resident key workers and a wide
range of ‘outside specialists’ who can give expert advice
and help, particularly to young people with more serious problems.
Connexions is housed in its own separate building which encourages
privacy. We hope we create an atmosphere of welcoming calm where
pupils can feel free to share their concerns in full confidence.
We try to provide whatever help or time a child needs.
As you will see from other sections of
the Connexions site we are involved in providing a range of activities
aimed at meeting the demands of our pupils. Whether you are a
parent or a pupil (or someone merely interested in what we do)
please do call in and see us sometime.
