| Novel Unit - Blitzed Robert Swindells
|
| This unit allows pupils
to read a contemporary novel in its entirety with
guidance on character, language and plot. The story
follows a modern day boy who becomes trapped in World
War 2. It comprises a historical research project,
sport commentary writing, letter writing, sensual
writing and prediction activity. |

| Novel Unit: - Holes Louis Sacher |
| This unit uses this contemporary
novel as a stimulus for explanation writing, letter
writing and prediction activity. The story follows
a boy who is sent to a correction centre for naughty
children and the adventures he has there. |

| Introduction to Shakespeare Unit:

| This unit allows pupils
to learn about the conventions of tragedy, history
and comedy. Extracts taken from Shakespeare’s
plays are used for drama and analysis of life and
language in the 17th Century. It comprises videos,
The Seven Ages of Man, rhythm and rhyme in poetry. |

| Performance Unit: - Ballads |
| This unit builds on knowledge of
poetry and introduces the history behind lyrical writing.
It comprises structure of ballads, poetic devices,
comedy, sadness and the production of own group ballad
for performance. |

| Horror Unit: - Dracula
and Frankenstein |
| This unit enables
pupils to focus on the horror genre and its features
coupled with the historical knowledge of authors.
It comprises plot analysis, prediction activity, diary
writing and imaginative writing. |

| Reading and writing
tests that are awarded with National Curriculum levels.
The results determine movement within sets for year
