The
purpose of the evening was to focus on the writing
triplets in preparation for the English GCSE exam.
We had a fabulous turn out from year 11 girls not
to mention an array of older sisters, mums and friends.
The first session was involved looking at the age
old problem of stereotyping women in the media.
Many of the girls and indeed their mums had strong
opinions on this matter. Having watched two contemporary
pop videos, we looked at the persona of women. Lyrics
coupled with the moving image were used as a stimulus
for the writing.
This hard work was rewarded with chips, coffee and
a mixture of pink wafers and sweeties.
The second session also focused on an exam style
question but instead of old fashioned paper and
pens we used the laptops. In this half of the session
we did not consider external appearance but internal
emotions that are often hidden away. Having looked
at a website aimed at internal beauty mums and daughters
posted emails on the message board.
The evening was enjoyable and useful. Many thanks
must go out to the female staff who volunteered
to spend 2 hours in the library.
