Each teaching room in the department
is equipped with its own TV and Video / DVD player.
Each teacher has their own laptop for the publication
of new worksheets. CDs can and are played from the
laptops as a stimulus for lessons. Moving image and
media are fantastic teaching resources to aid understanding
for less able students, and bring in a different angle
of interpretation for more able students.
Two teaching rooms have interactive whiteboards with
up to the minute Promethean and Microsoft PowerPoint
Software. Interactive learning is recognized as a
tool for 100% engagement of pupils. It lifts the working
atmosphere in the classroom immensely, enabling students
to fulfill objectives in a fun and kinesthetic way.
All staff within the department are encouraged to
organize room changes in order to access this equipment
and moreover the electronic resources.
We also have a portable projector and video camera
for shared use as we find filming students’
Speaking and Listening presentations enables us to
moderate, as a department, thus securing both teachers’
and students’ knowledge of grades.
Over the summer Hornsea School ICT department underwent
a refurbishment. This was to meet the demand of the
value that is placed in ICT in the modern world in
which we all live. All departments are encouraged
to book the new computer rooms. Indeed, a new mini
scheme of work has been created for Year 7 English
classes in line with the English framework objective
for provision in ICT. The English department also
has access to one of the school’s laptop banks.
Hornsea School is also lucky enough to have its own
Library and Resource Centre that was opened in 2001!
This resource is a very valuable to our department
enabling students to research topics such as An introduction
to Shakespeare in Year 8 and our cross curricular
Second World War scheme.
Key stage 3 English classes are allotted one hour
a fortnight in the library where Thinking Skills are
currently being explored.
