Unit 1-Making Meaning (2)
This is a mainly PRACTICAL unit. The first component is s RESEARCH PROJECT in which you research into a STAR, DIRECTOR, STUDIO, GENRE or FILM TECHNOLOGY. The learning focuses on RESEARCH METHODS, PRESENTATION SKILLS and the ability to EVALUATE your findings. The second strand of the unit is a PRACTICAL PROJECT where you have a choice of producing FILM JOURNALISM, A SHORT FILM or A SCREENPLAY. The main focus of this unit is how to make your work INDIVIDUAL whilst adhering to ESTABLISHED CONVENTIONS.
Unit 2-Studies in World Cinema
The main part of the study in this unit is concerned with the CLOSE STUDY of films from producers other than BRITAIN and HOLLYWOOD. You will closely analyze a selection of films from different
TIMES/COUNTRIES in order to CONTRAST the content with MAINSTREAM films you will already be familiar with. You will find these films CHALLENGING and DIFFERENT to what your idea of what CINEMA really is.
Unit 3-Critical Studies
This unit brings together all aspects of the course and expects you to enter into DEBATES around ISSUES found within FILM as a MEDIUM.
The unit is made up of three strands which are: SHOCKING CINEMA, REGULATION AND CENSORSHIP, and PERFORMANCE STUDIES. Following this unit, you should be able to REFLECT CRITICALLY on KEY CONCEPTS within film, develop your own PERSONAL APPROACH to the analysis of film and DISCUSS major ISSUES within the wide area of CINEMA.

A good grade at AS Film Studies
What You Will Achieve:
As well as the A Level Film Studies qualification you will have developed an enquiring, analytical mind enabling you to enter wider debates about much more than cinema. The course will open your
eyes(literally) to how we interpret visual information and create a personal response to what we see.
After the Course:
Many Higher Education courses accept Film Studies as a valid entry qualification into a wide range of Degree course. |
