AS Film Studies – Coursework (40% of overall grade) Assessed in school, moderated at awarding body.

1. Micro Analysis Essay (1500 words)
Students choose a key sequence from a film of their own choice and analyse how meaning is created for the viewer by:

Cinematography
Mise-en-Scene
Editing
Sound
Performance

Draft versions are used to improve the quality of the final essay.

2. Macro Analysis Essay (1500 words)
Students choose a key sequence(s) from a film of their own choice and analyse how meaning is created for the viewer by:

Narrative
Genre

3. Practical Application of Learning (P.A.L.)
Students demonstrate their knowledge by writing sections from their own imaginary film, including:

Synopsis/Cinematic Ideas (500 words)

Storyboard of a key scene (15 – 25 shots)

Evaluation (500 words)
