Food
Technology:
This subject gives students
the opportunity to experiment while designing and
making food products. Students are encouraged to
evaluate existing dishes and create and develop
their own recipes. Students
learn basic recipes, sensory and product analysis
skills and use new equipment. They also learn
about nutrition and the scientific background
of food components. The skills learnt are used
as the basis for design and make projects.
The course includes the
study of techniques and manufacturing processes
used in industry. The use of ICT is an integral
part of the course.
Textile Technology:
Textile Technology involves
the designing and making of quality products using
textile materials in a creative and imaginative
way. Students learn new skills such as silk painting,
printing and a range of decorative techniques.
Students are taught how to use a sewing machine
correctly as well as having the opportunity to
use a ‘scan and sew’ machine.
The course encourages
students to make decisions, experiment, try out
new techniques and use textile materials in a
creative and artistic way. The course examines
the new technologies and manufacturing processes
used in the textile industry at present using
CAD/CAM.
