KEY STAGE 3 - Unit 13 - Control systems |
 |
Choose a Unit - , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |
|
| |
In
this unit pupils explore ICT systems through the scenario
of designing a new water ride in a theme park. The ride
must be a new concept, water based and involve some
kind of boat or raft. The design of the boat is not
important; the focus is on developing a ride where a
number of individual boats move through a water channel
safely and under control. The system could involve a
feedback loop.
The pupils assess the requirements of a new ride,
plan and develop a safety control system. The work
provides them with the opportunity to evaluate the
use of technology and reflect on its use in other
situations. Pupils develop their abilities to plan,
build, test, evaluate and document their use of control
systems, as well as extending their skills in using
sensors and control software.
Pupils might test their procedures using a variety
of input and output devices, with no need to build
models.
This unit is expected to take approximately 10 hours.

Introduction
At Hornsea School & Sixth Form Centre, ICT is becoming
an essential tool for students in all areas of their
studies. From year 7 through to the Sixth Form there
is growing evidence of the developing integration of
ICT into our curriculum. There are a number of factors
that need to be managed to help achieve our goal of
a well-mapped, complete integration of ICT into our
curriculum. These factors include:
1. Providing training for staff
2. Supporting staff as they endeavour to become more
confident, competent users of ICT tools and resources
3. Facilitating the exchange of ideas between staff
4. Developing a reliable, scalable, secure, school-wide
network
5. Ensuring that access to equipment is as easy as
possible
6. Ensuring that the equipment is in good working
order.
7. Providing a good foundation course in ICT for the
students in Key Stage3.
8. Encouraging students to explore the possibilities
of using ICT outside timetabled lessons.
The aim of this site
is to provide an insight into the areas of our curriculum
where ICT is being used. It is anticipated that the
details described will need updating on a regular basis
reflecting the fluid nature of the use of ICT across
the subjects.
The School Mission
Statement
To create a caring environment in which students, staff
and parents work together to enable students of all
abilities reach their maximum potential and develop
self-esteem, confidence and maturity.
