KEY STAGE 3 - Unit 4 - Models - Rules and Investigations |
 |
Choose a Unit - , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |
|
| |
In
this unit pupils learn how simple models are built by
first investigating rules, then by seeing how rules
can govern the behaviour of simple models.
The unit concentrates on setting up a model of the
operation of a successful tuck shop. Pupils identify
the objectives for the retailer, outcomes from a consumer
perspective, the constraints under which the tuck
shop has to operate and the likely effects on the
retailers' objectives.
Pupils discuss the ways in which the model could
be presented in a spreadsheet, identifying the inputs,
the rules (formulae) and the outputs. Pupils then
work in groups to construct this model, revising cells,
formulae and cell references. They test the effectiveness
of the model by using sample data representing a number
of scenarios.
This unit is expected to take approximately 5 hours.

Introduction
At Hornsea School & Sixth Form Centre, ICT is becoming
an essential tool for students in all areas of their
studies. From year 7 through to the Sixth Form there
is growing evidence of the developing integration of
ICT into our curriculum. There are a number of factors
that need to be managed to help achieve our goal of
a well-mapped, complete integration of ICT into our
curriculum. These factors include:
1. Providing training for staff
2. Supporting staff as they endeavour to become more
confident, competent users of ICT tools and resources
3. Facilitating the exchange of ideas between staff
4. Developing a reliable, scalable, secure, school-wide
network
5. Ensuring that access to equipment is as easy as
possible
6. Ensuring that the equipment is in good working
order.
7. Providing a good foundation course in ICT for the
students in Key Stage3.
8. Encouraging students to explore the possibilities
of using ICT outside timetabled lessons.
The aim of this site
is to provide an insight into the areas of our curriculum
where ICT is being used. It is anticipated that the
details described will need updating on a regular basis
reflecting the fluid nature of the use of ICT across
the subjects.
The School Mission
Statement
To create a caring environment in which students, staff
and parents work together to enable students of all
abilities reach their maximum potential and develop
