Unit 1 - COURSEWORK UNIT.
This introductory unit allows you to DEVELOP your VISUAL LANGUAGE by undertaking several PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSIGNMENTS. This is to improve your TECHNICAL ABILITY as well as deepening your ART AND DESIGN VOCABULARY. You will study the FORMAL ELEMENTS of Art and Design: LINE, TONE, COLOUR, SHAPE, PATTERN, TEXTURE and FORM. This knowledge will allow you to COMMUNICATE your IDEAS in an exciting and visual form. You will RESEARCH the work of artists from the past and the present to evidence your ongoing CRITICAL and PRACTICAL knowledge. You will write your own PHOTOGRAPHY BRIEF and bring your study to an informed and creative solution. Unit 2 - EXTERNALLY SET ASSIGNMENT. This unit allows you to DEVELOP a PERSONAL RESPONSE to a brief set by the awarding body. You will RESEARCH, PLAN and DEVELOP your ideas prior to a TIMED (8 HOUR) PRACTICAL EXAM. You should show evidence of being able to generate a range of ideas, conduct research appropriate to your intentions, RECORD and ANALYSE both PRIMARY and SECONDARY sources. DEVELOP, REVIEW and REFINE your ideas in light of your RESEARCH. All your preparatory work will be logged in a sketchbook/visual worksheets to work alongside your final PRESENTATION.
The Qualification:
AS Art and Design (Photography) Edexcel
Entry Requirements:
Grade C or above in both Art and English at GCSE is preferred though not essential. Good written communication skills and an enquiring mind/creative eye is a real bonus.
What You Will Achieve:
Your qualification will be AS Art and Design (Photography), but you will also discover how to look at things from a new perspective and have a more enquiring outlook on things. To quote someone famous "The art of Photography is learning to see".
After the Course:
A Level Photography followed by Further or Higher Education in creative subjects or a career in a similar field.
