Level 2 BTEC  First Certificate in Children’s Care,  Learning and Development

What will I learn

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Children’s Care, Learning and Development consists of 3 core units that provide for a combined total of 180 guided learning hours

Unit 1
Understanding Children’s Development

On completion of this unit you will:

·        Understand the growth and development of children
·        Understand the role of observation of children’s development in the workplace
·        Know how to observe children’s development
·        Understand the importance of planning in supporting children’s needs and development

Unit 2
Keeping children Safe

On completion of this unit you will:
·        Understand how to prepare and maintain a safe and secure environment for children
·        Know how to support the protection of children from abuse
·        Understand how to maintain the safety of children on outings
·        Know how to deal with accidents, illness and emergencies

Unit 3
Communication with Children and Adults

On completion of this unit you will:
·        Understand the key features of effective interpersonal communication
·        Understand how to interact and communicate with children
·        Understand how to interact and communicate with adults

Unit 1 and 3 require a total of 60 hours of work placement to be completed. 

What are the entry requirements?

4 GCSE’s Grade D-G

How will I be assessed?

All work completed in this area is assessed by portfolio work which can be in the form of assignments, case studies as well as work-based assessments. Practical work experience will also form a part of the assessment.

Each unit contains pass, merit and distinction criteria.  Learners must pass in all four core units to achieve the qualification.
