What is the difference between BTREC National Award and 'A' Level PE?
There are several differences between BTEC and 'A' Level
- BTEC National Award is work-related. All the topics you learn relate to the skills and knowledge you will need in the workplace. This means that you gain specific knowledge and understanding relevant to your chosen subject or area of work.
- They are practical. You will learn how to apply your knowledge, both on your own and as a member of a team, to develop your skills and abilities. You maybe asked to demonstrate your knowledge by giving a presentation or taking part in an activity.
- There are now exams. So you won’t be expected to revise and learn lots of facts, or to write answers in an exam room in June. Instead, you will be continually assessed each half term through completed assignments set by your teacher, based on learning outcomes. These assignments will be given to you throughout the two year course with strict deadlines. This course is suitable for self-motivated individuals who have the ability to maximise their study time.
- BTEC Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. You will also be expected to become better organised as the course progresses. You will also be expected to think for yourself. This means planning what to do and carrying out the task without needing constant reminders.
- Your sporting ability will not be assessed – however, there will be an opportunity to participate in practical sporting activites (Fitness Testing/Sports Coaching etc).
