During the course you will work on performing and analytical skills. You will perform in a variety of styles and learn about choreographers and the art of solo and group choreography. You will learn about professional dance works and how the dancer’s body functions. You will also learn to record through dance notation.
Unit 1 40% of the total marks
This is an examination in two sections. You will study the dancer as a performer, how the body works safe practice, fitness, technical and performance skills. You also look at the process of choreography and the significance of dance through the study of professional set works. All this will be taught in very much a practical way. There will be a written exam of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Unit 2 60 % of the total marks
You will research and create a solo choreography piece that lasts 2 to 3 minutes.
You will also perform either as a duo or a trio to show your physical technical and interpretive skills. This work will form the practical exam in AS |
