This course is extremely flexible in that it is available as an AS-Level, two AS-Levels, one A-Level or as two A-Levels.

The AS-Level comprises 3 units that are all compulsory: Investigating Business, People in Business and Financial Planning and Monitoring (which is an examined unit).
The Double AS-Level comprises 6 units, made up of the above units plus: Meeting Customer Needs (examination), Developing a Product and Career Planning.

This is a worthwhile course for candidates of various ages and from diverse backgrounds in terms of general education and lifelong learning.

The course can reasonably be undertaken by students entering this vocational area for the first time and with no prior knowledge of it. All we ask is that you work hard and have reasonably good standards of English and keyboard skills.

Assessment is designed to give credit for what candidates can do as well as what they know and understand. It is based both on coursework, which is marked by your teachers and checked by the Examinations Board, and external examinations.

These AS and Advanced GCEs are broad-based vocational qualifications designed to allow students flexible progression routes, moving on to higher education or further training and/or employment.

Students following these broad courses of study will have an opportunity to:

Investigate business and markets
Analyse business systems
Propose improvements to systems and developments of products
Produce business plans Develop creative and analytical thinking

Career opportunities that are directly related to the subject include:

Marketing, Banking, Insurance, Administration, Accountancy, Operations Management, the Legal profession, Politics and Human Resources.

However, there is a strong argument that in the future everyone will need to have had a business education. Whatever you do in your professional life, the chances are that it will involve some ‘business’. Scientists, engineers, even artists, will inevitably have to understand at least the basics of business, and probably a lot more.
