| What Will I Learn? |

UNIT ONE – INTRODUCTION TO LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE STUDY
(60% OF AS, 30% OF A-LEVEL)
This Unit is an introduction to the study of language and literature using a short Anthology of literary and non-literary texts. The chosen texts will offer you the opportunity to study the development of language and style over time.
UNIT TWO – THEMES IN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
(40% OF AS, 20% OF A-LEVEL)
This coursework unit gives you the opportunity to study major prose genres, including fiction and literary non-fiction. The aim of this unit is for you to develop your reading and writing skills through the in-depth study of writers’ crafting.

| What Are The Entry Requirements? |
Whilst it is advisable to have obtained at least a C grade at GCSE, we are more than happy to enrol students who are willing to work hard and tackle new challenges |

| How Will I Be Assessed? |
UNIT ONE - Assessment is by exam ( 1hr 30 mins – 2 questions OPEN BOOk)
UNIT TWO
Assessment is by coursework
Two-part assignment
Students select extracts from their chosen pair of texts.
• Part A (1200-1500 words) – discussion of the extracts in relation to the set theme
• Part B (500-800 words) – a piece of creative writing which extends and enhances Part A |
