Unit 3: Texts and Genres
This unit builds on the investigation into the significance of genre carried out during the AS course. It is possible to study a range of texts from one of two broad categories: Elements of the Gothic and Elements of the Pastoral. Assessment will be by one written paper of two hours' duration.
Unit 4: Further and Independent Reading
This is a diverse unit which aims to introduce students to the many different ways of reading literary texts, while looking in particular at two connected 'schools' of critical approach: Marxism and Feminism. Another key topic for exploration will be metaphor and the crucial role it plays in creating meaning. As this is a coursework unit, assessment will be by the production of a portfolio of two pieces of work.
