What Will I Learn?
The AS Languages course covers a wide range of current affairs topics relating to the culture of the country of the language being studied. Unit 1 – 30% of AS, 15% of A level. You will develop your speaking skills on the topics in unit 2. You will participate in a role play, and you will then take part in a general conversation based on one of the topics studied in unit 2. This unit will be prepared with the French/Spanish Assistant, on the basis of regular one-hour lessons. Unit 2 – 70% of AS, 35% of A level. You will cover the following topics: aspects of daily life, leisure and entertainment, communication and media, education and training. You will develop your listening, reading and writing skills.

What Are The Entry Requirements?
A grade ’C’ in the relevant language is the minimum entry requirement for AS level. If students intend to do AS and A2, a grade B is desirable.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know?
This course will provide you with an AS qualification. You will also acquire proficiency in the 4 skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in the foreign language studied.

Future Opportunities?
Students may progress to study French/Spanish at A2 level before commencing a degree in languages or another subject at university. AS French or Spanish is useful for careers in business, industry, teaching and working in Europe.
