This course develops the skills learnt at A2 increasing your confidence and competence. There is also a lot of composition and the opportunity to study 2 classic rock/pop albums in depth.
Practical activity 1 (30%) Sequencing, Recording and Producing.
You will record a band in the studio making a close miked recording of between 8 and 16 tracks.
You will make your own arrangement of a pop, rock or jazz song using a midi sequencer. You will then overdub two live tracks on top of your midi sequence.
Practical activity 2 (30%) Composing using Technology
After studying the composition techniques employed by a wide range of composers you will Use programmes such as Reason, ProTools, Logic and Cubase to make your own compositions.
One piece will be to a brief decided upon by your teacher and yourself. The second composition will be started in February when you will receive a brief of the theme of "Words and Music" from the exam board.
Written work (40%)
There are two exam papers for this course. In the first one you will get a score and audio CD then answer questions about their musical features. Next, you will examine a midifile of the same piece and show your understanding of how it was created and could be improved.
In the second exam you will demonstrate your knowledge of the music, performance, technology and history of two albums that you will have studied in depth. |
