The AS Languages course covers a wide range of current affairs topics relating to the culture of the country of the language being studied. You will consider issues of importance in contemporary society, while at the same time allowing you to study in some depth the culture of a Spanish speaking country.
Course content:
Unit 1: You will develop your listening, reading and writing skills in the following areas:-
MEDIA - Television, Advertising, Communication technologyPOPULAR CULTURE – Cinema, Music, Fashion/TrendsHEALTHY LIVING/LIFESTYLE – Sport/exercise, Health and well-being, HolidaysFAMILY/RELATIONSHOPS – Relationships within the family, Friendships, Marriages/partnerships
Unit 2: Speaking Test
You will develop your speaking skills on the topics in unit 1 The Speaking Test has two parts – a discussion of a language stimulus card and a conversation based on 2-3 of the topics studied during the AS course. This unit will be prepared with the Spanish Assistant on the basis of one hour lesson every week.

Students may progress to study French/Spanish at A2 level before commencing a degree in languages or another subject at university, AS French or Spanish is useful for careers in business, industry, teaching and working in Europe.
